Held on 18th May 2025 2pm at Wainui Hall, Wainui


  1. Chairman welcomed everyone to the meeting.


  1. (a). Present: Ron Fincham (Acting Chairman, Treasurer), Chris Hughes (Secretary), Brian Titford (Committee), Lynda Terry (Committee), Mike Ashwell (Committee), Sheryll Titford, Klaudia Batten, Diane Hughes, Craig Mountjoy, Cindy McDonald, Kieron Kennedy, William Titford, Crystal Titford, Darold Krull, Jenny Krull, Diane Richards, Paul Graham, Sarah Eberhardt, Greg Sayers (Akl Council), Geoff Upson (Akl Council)

    (b) Apologies: Cheryl Krull (committee), Neil Truslove (Chairman)


  1. Previous minutes of the last AGM were tabled as a true and accurate record. Nominated by Sheryll Titford, seconded by Craig Mountjoy. Passed by majority.


  1. Financial report: Ron Fincham tabled 2025 accounts. Ron explained the good increase in subs for the 2024 year and described the completion of the use of the Red Cross money. No questions emerged from the floor. It was moved to adopt the account for the 2024 year: Nominated by Brian Titford, seconded by Craig Mountjoy. Passed by majority.


  2. Chairmans report. Ron Fincham read his report as acting Chairman. Points for noting

    included, advising the meeting that Neil Truslove was not standing for re-election as

    Chairman, Ron thanked Neil for his immense contribution over the last 3 years

    especially noting the contribution in the aftermath of the flooding and cyclone events. Other activities included stream clearing, Family Fun Day, ANZAC service contribution and the completing of the spending of the grant from the Red Cross. Ron also reminded the meeting of the mission of the group. In conclusion, Ron suggested that subs be increased to $25 as members have been slow so far in 2025 to rejoin. This was deferred to the appropriate agenda item.


  1. Election of Chair for 2025/26. Ron Fincham temporarily vacated the Chair role but was invited to continue with the process. No nominations were received. It was agreed that the incoming committee would elect officers accordingly.


  1. Election of Committee for 2025/26. The Chair asked for nominations from the floor to stand on the committee. Nominations were received from the existing committee

    members (Ron Fincham, Brian Titford, Mike Ashwell, Lynda Terry, Cindy McDonald, and Cheryl Krull). A further nomination was received from Paul Graham.

    All nominations were accepted unanimously. Committee was elected for 2025/26.


  1. Motions:

    Subscriptions: discussion was had on the merits of raising the subscription to $25 for family of $20 for an individual. It was suggested that more efforts could be made to drum up support and members. A motion was tabled for subscriptions to increased $15 per individual and $20 per family but from the new financial year beginning 1/4/26. Nominated by Craig Mountjoy and 2nd by Mike Ashwell. A vote was taken with 11 for and 5 against. The motion was carried by a majority.


  1. General Business:

    (a.) Life Membership. Ron Fincham nominated Brian Titford to become a Life Member of the WVA for his work over many years supporting the associations endeavours. Nominated by Ron Fincham and 2nd by Mike Ashwell. A vote was taken with all present agreeing. The motion was carried unanimously.

    (b.) Waiwera Valley Action Group: Members of this organisation were invited to speak to inform the meeting of an issue concerning 71 Upper Waiwera Rd. Klaudia Batten spoke on behalf of the group. Information was passed on describing the proposed “art” installation and potential future development on this site. Many residents are feeling that this could have a detrimental effect on their surroundings and house prices, traffic build up and noise. The WVA agreed at the meeting that it could act as a facilitator of information only as per our mission however it cannot share its database with the group for privacy reasons.

    c.) Brian Titford urged the incoming committee to keep up the pressure on Healthy

    Waters to maintain the streams and to rid the area of Willows.

    (d.) Greg Sayers & Geoff Upson were acknowledged for their attendance and thanked for their efforts in the area.


Meeting closed at 3.18 pm.
